As my Colorful Coral Reef children’s book has sold often, and still sells every month, I thought to write about the Red Sea marine life here on my book blog.
I fell in love with the Red Sea fish and corals 15 years ago. I tested snorkeling in Sharm el Sheikh and bought a small underwater camera. The first photos were not the best, but it sure was a good start to a new hobby.
Next time in the Red Sea, in Port Ghalib, I had a better version of an underwater camera. I fell in love with photographing the fish and colorful corals. I also love to be in the sea, I always have.
It is also about good luck, if you capture a good photo or not, as you never know in advance which fish are visible and which are hiding, and how do the tides affect the amount of plankton in the water. The best shots are taken when the plankton is minimal and the water is clear.
The Red Sea is the healthiest of all seas for the corals. It is the salt level in the sea, which helps the coral reefs survive. We should really take care of the oceans as the ecosystem is unique and affects the whole world.
I visited Red Sea fiteen times before Covid made our traveling stop.
The best coral reefs which I have seen are in Port Ghalib. The many different corals ranging from purple and pink to golden and white makes the underwater world magical. I have also photographed in Makadi Bay and that is also a fantastic place to capture beautiful and exotic photos.
I have listed perhaps 120 fish and corals, which I have photographed. It surprised me that there were so many species I have had the luck to see.
Some of my favorites are the butterflyfish, the anemone fish, the jellyfish, the stingray, the surgeonfish and the unicornfish. But to choose a favorite is hard, as I love all the fish in the Red Sea.
6 years ago I decided to create a few books for children, so they can enjoy the adventure underwater and the beauty that the Red Sea offers. One book is for children age 1-3 and one book is for children age 5-9. The books are fun for older children and adults too.
I plan to write a new science fish book for children, as there are still so many species I can show and write about.
Thank you to all who have bought my Colorful Coral Reef or the Adventures of the Picassofish books. You have made me very happy!
